Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large ripe peaches, sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 8 slices thick-sliced brioche bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved and bubbling, about 2 minutes.

Step 3

Pour the caramelized sugar mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange the peach slices over the caramel in a single layer.

Step 4

In a medium bowl, whisk together the cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.

Step 5

Dip each slice of brioche into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are soaked. Arrange the soaked bread slices in a single layer over the peaches, slightly overlapping if necessary.

Step 6

Pour any remaining egg mixture over the bread. Press down gently to allow the bread to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Step 8

Let the dish cool for 5-10 minutes. Run a knife along the edges to loosen, then carefully invert the baking dish onto a large serving platter or tray.

Step 9

Dust the top with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or maple syrup.
