Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes
  • 4 large Garlic cloves
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cups Heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel and quarter the large russet potatoes. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch and place them in a large pot.

Step 2

Add enough water to the pot to fully cover the potatoes. Add 2 teaspoons of salt to the water and bring it to a boil over high heat.

Step 3

While the potatoes are boiling, peel the garlic cloves and add them whole to the pot with the potatoes. Allow the potatoes and garlic to cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 20–25 minutes.

Step 4

Drain the potatoes and garlic using a colander. Return them to the warm pot to help evaporate any excess moisture left on the potatoes.

Step 5

Using a potato masher or electric mixer, mash the potatoes and garlic until smooth and creamy.

Step 6

Add the unsalted butter to the potatoes and stir until fully melted and incorporated.

Step 7

Pour in the heavy cream, a little at a time, mixing until the desired creamy consistency is reached. Adjust the amount based on personal preference.

Step 8

Season the mashed potatoes with ground black pepper and additional salt, if needed. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasoning.

Step 9

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and extra flavor, if desired.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy your rich and garlicky mashed potatoes with your favorite main dish.
