Ingredients

  • 1 pound Fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 6 slices Bacon, diced
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Chicken broth
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and blanch them for 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender. Drain them and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop cooking. Drain again and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until crispy, about 7-8 minutes. Remove the bacon using a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate. Keep the bacon drippings in the skillet.

Step 3

To the skillet with the bacon drippings, add the butter and let it melt. Stir in the chopped onion and cook for 4-5 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.

Step 5

Stir in the brown sugar and chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to deglaze. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Step 6

Add the blanched green beans to the skillet and toss to coat them in the sauce. Season with salt and black pepper and cook for another 5-6 minutes until the green beans are tender.

Step 7

Sprinkle the crispy bacon over the green beans and toss gently to combine. Serve warm as a side dish for any meal.
