Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 units Large eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.

Step 3

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with a hand or stand mixer on medium speed until the batter is smooth.

Step 4

Slowly stir in the boiling water by hand until fully combined. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

Step 5

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Step 7

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 8

To make the ganache, place the chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl.

Step 9

In a small saucepan, bring the heavy cream and butter to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Step 10

Pour the hot cream mixture over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth and glossy.

Step 11

Let the ganache cool slightly to thicken, about 10-15 minutes.

Step 12

Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand. Spread a thin layer of ganache over the top.

Step 13

Place the second cake layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the entire cake, using a spatula to gently spread it over the top and sides.

Step 14

Let the cake set at room temperature or in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
