Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups onions, finely chopped
  • 1 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1 cup bell peppers, finely chopped
  • 0.5 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1.25 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup evaporated milk
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup ketchup (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.

Step 2

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions, celery, and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring often, until softened.

Step 3

Add the green onions, garlic, salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper, white pepper, and ground cumin to the skillet. Continue cooking for another 3-5 minutes until the seasonings are fragrant.

Step 4

Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, evaporated milk, and 1/2 cup of ketchup. Set the mixture aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, eggs, and breadcrumbs. When the vegetable mixture has cooled, incorporate it into the meat mixture. Mix gently but thoroughly to combine all ingredients.

Step 6

Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in the greased loaf pan. Spread the remaining 1/2 cup of ketchup evenly over the top of the meatloaf as a glaze.

Step 7

Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 8

Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing to help it hold its shape. Serve warm and enjoy!
