Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons Espresso powder
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for sauce)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients in three additions, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 7

While the cake bakes, prepare the espresso caramel sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, butter, and espresso powder.

Step 8

Stir the sauce mixture constantly until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 9

Once the cake is baked, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Drizzle the cooled cake generously with the espresso caramel sauce before serving. Optionally, garnish with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
