Ingredients

  • 10 pieces Cucumber (small pickling cucumbers)
  • 2 cups White vinegar
  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Salt (non-iodized, pickling or kosher salt preferred)
  • 2 teaspoons Yellow mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Celery seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves (sliced thinly)
  • 3 sprigs Fresh dill (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Wash the cucumbers thoroughly and slice them into thin rounds or spears according to your preference.

Step 2

Prepare a large heat-safe jar or several smaller mason jars for the pickles by washing them with hot, soapy water and allowing them to dry completely.

Step 3

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine white vinegar, granulated sugar, water, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar and salt dissolve completely. Do not let the liquid come to a boil.

Step 4

Add mustard seeds, celery seeds, turmeric powder, and sliced garlic cloves to the saucepan. Stir to incorporate the spices evenly. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the brine cool slightly for 5-10 minutes.

Step 5

Pack the sliced cucumbers tightly into the prepared jars, leaving a small amount of headspace at the top.

Step 6

Carefully pour the warm brine over the cucumbers, making sure they are fully submerged. Divide the spices and garlic evenly among the jars, if needed.

Step 7

If desired, add a sprig of fresh dill to each jar for added flavor and visual appeal.

Step 8

Seal the jars with airtight lids and allow them to cool to room temperature on the countertop for about an hour.

Step 9

Refrigerate the jars for at least 24 hours before serving to allow the flavors to marinate and develop. For best results, wait 2-3 days.

Step 10

Enjoy your sweet and sour pickles as a topping, side, or snack!
