Ingredients

  • 5 medium russet potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cups grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin, uniform rounds (about 1/8 inch thick). Set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux, stirring constantly to avoid burning.

Step 5

Slowly pour in the whole milk and heavy cream, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Stir in the salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and paprika. Reduce heat to low and add the shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.

Step 7

Arrange one-third of the potato slices in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour one-third of the cheese sauce over the top, using a spatula to spread it evenly.

Step 8

Repeat the layering process two more times with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce, finishing with a layer of sauce on top.

Step 9

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Step 11

Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley evenly over the top for garnish before serving.

Step 12

Allow the dish to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy your Scalloped Potatoes Supreme!
