Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 0.75 cup Whole milk (cold)
  • 2 tablespoons Melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the cold milk. Stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 3-4 times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick rectangle.

Step 6

Using a round biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Re-roll the scraps as needed, but try to handle the dough as little as possible to keep the biscuits tender.

Step 7

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Step 8

Optional: Remove the biscuits from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter while they’re still warm for added flavor and shine.

Step 9

Serve warm with your choice of butter, jam, or gravy. Enjoy!
