Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (cold)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Sugar
  • 6 tablespoons Ice water
  • 1 teaspoon White vinegar (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar.

Step 2

Cut the cold unsalted butter into small cubes and add to the flour mixture.

Step 3

Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.

Step 4

Drizzle 4 tablespoons of ice water over the flour mixture and gently stir with a fork. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons, one at a time, until the dough just comes together. If desired, add 1 teaspoon of white vinegar at this stage for extra tenderness.

Step 5

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead until it holds together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.

Step 6

Divide the dough in half, shape each portion into a flat disk, and wrap tightly in plastic wrap.

Step 7

Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. The dough can also be frozen for up to 1 month.

Step 8

When ready to use, roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness and transfer to your baking dish.
