Ingredients

  • 12 oz pasta
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the diced onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for another 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink.

Step 5

Drain any excess fat from the skillet, if necessary.

Step 6

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

Step 7

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 8

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more salt or pepper to taste.

Step 9

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the sauce, gently tossing until the pasta is well-coated with the sauce.

Step 10

Serve the pasta hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.
