Ingredients

  • 2 cups Fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup Dried sour cherries
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon Orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Dark rum
  • 1/8 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and set them aside.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the dried sour cherries, granulated sugar, water, and orange juice. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Add the cranberries, orange zest, and ground cinnamon to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

Step 4

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer. Stir occasionally and allow the cranberries to burst and soften, about 10-12 minutes.

Step 5

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove it from the heat and stir in the dark rum and salt. Mix thoroughly.

Step 6

Let the sauce cool to room temperature before serving, or refrigerate it for later use.

Step 7

Serve as a side dish with your favorite holiday meals, spread on sandwiches, or use it as a topping for desserts.
