Ingredients

  • 1 cup (softened) unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup (packed) light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1.25 cups M&M's candies
  • 0.5 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Step 3

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the bowl, and mix until fully incorporated.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Fold in the M&M's candies and chocolate chips (if using) with a spatula until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Step 7

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.

Step 8

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers should still look slightly underbaked for a soft and chewy texture.

Step 9

Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Serve the cookies fresh or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
