In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until browned and crumbled. Drain excess grease.
Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
