Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup Bread crumbs
  • 2 large Eggs

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and allow it to sit until it becomes frothy (about 5-10 minutes).

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center.

Step 3

Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter into the well. Mix until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and divide it into 16 equal portions. Shape each portion into an oval.

Step 7

Roll each shaped dough in bread crumbs to coat the surface thoroughly.

Step 8

Arrange the dough pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring enough space between them for a second rise.

Step 9

Cover them with a damp cloth and let them rest for another 30 minutes, or until they double in size again.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 11

Bake the pandesal in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
