Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 1 unit Large egg
  • 1 cup Light brown sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Set aside.

Step 2

In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm 1 cup of whole milk and 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

In a small bowl, dissolve 2.25 teaspoons of active dry yeast in 0.25 cup of warm water (approximately 110°F/43°C). Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 4

Add the milk mixture and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Crack in 1 large egg and mix until a dough forms.

Step 5

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.

Step 6

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 7

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing 1 cup of light brown sugar and 2.5 teaspoons of ground cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 8

Once the dough has doubled in size, roll it out into a 16x12-inch rectangle on a floured surface.

Step 9

Spread 4 tablespoons of softened unsalted butter evenly over the dough, stopping 1 inch from the edges.

Step 10

Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 11

Starting from one of the long edges, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.

Step 12

Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Step 13

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and fluffy.

Step 14

While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, mix 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, 4 tablespoons of softened butter, 1.5 cups of powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 15

Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving. Enjoy fresh!
