Ingredients

  • 6 medium, peeled, cored, and sliced Apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 0.75 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons, cut into small pieces Unsalted butter
  • 2 cups Biscuit mix (store-bought or homemade)
  • 0.75 cups Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Coarse sugar (optional, for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Drizzle the lemon juice over the mixture and toss until the apples are evenly coated.

Step 3

Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Dot the top of the apples with small pieces of butter.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, prepare the biscuit topping by combining the biscuit mix, whole milk, and vanilla extract. Stir just until a soft dough forms—do not overmix.

Step 5

Using a spoon or your hands, drop small mounds of the biscuit dough over the apples, leaving a little space between each mound to allow steam to escape.

Step 6

If desired, sprinkle the coarse sugar over the biscuit topping for added texture and sweetness.

Step 7

Bake the cobbler in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and bubbling and the biscuit topping is golden brown.

Step 8

Allow the cobbler to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
