Peel and chop the potatoes into 2-inch chunks for even cooking.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook the potatoes for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
While the potatoes are cooking, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Mash the potatoes until smooth using a potato masher or ricer.
