Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut flour
  • 1 cup arrowroot starch
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 pound pork shoulder, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing the dough. In a large mixing bowl, combine coconut flour, arrowroot starch, and baking soda.

Step 2

Add coconut milk and apple cider vinegar to the dry mixture. Stir until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a bit more coconut milk.

Step 3

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and set it aside to let it rest while you prepare the filling.

Step 4

In a large skillet over medium heat, add coconut oil and sauté the onions until translucent.

Step 5

Add garlic and ginger, and continue to sauté for another minute until fragrant.

Step 6

Increase the heat to medium-high, add the chopped pork to the skillet, and cook until browned.

Step 7

Stir in coconut aminos, honey, salt, and pepper, and let the mixture simmer for another 5-7 minutes. Once cooked, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 8

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a circle about 5 inches in diameter, keeping the center thicker than the edges.

Step 9

Place about 2 tablespoons of the pork filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pleat around the filling, pinching to seal at the top.

Step 10

Place each bun on a small square of parchment paper and transfer to a steamer basket.

Step 11

Steam buns over boiling water for 20 minutes or until the dough is cooked through.

Step 12

Carefully remove the buns from the steamer and serve warm. Enjoy your Paleo Siopao with a side of coconut aminos for dipping if desired.
