Ingredients

  • 1 pound grass-fed ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small scotch bonnet pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 1 cup arrowroot flour
  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 0.5 cup cold water
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 0.25 cup cold butter or lard (optional, for dough)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of coconut oil over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the onion, garlic, scotch bonnet pepper, and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until fully browned.

Step 5

Stir in the green onions, thyme, allspice, paprika, sea salt, black pepper, and coconut aminos. Cook for another 5 minutes.

Step 6

Remove the beef mixture from heat and set it aside to cool.

Step 7

In a large mixing bowl, combine the arrowroot flour, almond flour, turmeric, and a pinch of salt.

Step 8

Add in the cold butter or lard and mix until crumbly. For a lighter texture, you may use a food processor.

Step 9

Slowly add cold water, mixing until the dough comes together. It should be firm yet pliable.

Step 10

Divide the dough into eight equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten into a disk about 6 inches in diameter.

Step 11

Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto one half of each dough disk.

Step 12

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, creating a half-moon shape, and press the edges together with a fork to seal.

Step 13

Place the patties onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 14

Brush each patty with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 15

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the patties are golden and the dough is cooked through.

Step 16

Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Paleo Jamaican Beef Patties!
