Ingredients

  • 4 pieces hake fillets
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 0.5 cup arrowroot powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 4 for serving lemon wedges

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the hake fillets under cold running water and pat them dry with paper towels. Ensure they are fully thawed if using frozen fillets.

Step 2

In a shallow dish, combine the almond flour, arrowroot powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, sea salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a seasoned flour mixture.

Step 3

In another shallow bowl, beat the eggs well to prepare an egg wash.

Step 4

Dip each hake fillet first into the egg wash, ensuring it is completely coated, then dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture. Press gently to help the coating adhere to the fish. Place the coated fillet on a plate. Repeat with the remaining hake fillets.

Step 5

In a large skillet, heat coconut oil over medium-high heat. The oil should be about 1/4 inch deep in the skillet.

Step 6

Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated hake fillets to the skillet. Cook them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the crust is golden brown and the fish is cooked through (opaque and flakes easily with a fork).

Step 7

Remove the fried hake fillets from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Step 8

Serve the crispy fried hake fish immediately with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over, if desired.
