Ingredients

  • 1 pound Flank steak
  • 0.5 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup Gluten-free soy sauce (tamari)
  • 0.5 cup Dark brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger, minced
  • 4 stalks Green onions, sliced into 2-inch pieces
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain into bite-sized strips. Pat the steak strips dry with a paper towel and lightly season with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Place the cornstarch in a shallow dish. Dredge each steak strip in the cornstarch, shaking off any excess. Set aside and let the steak sit for 10 minutes, allowing the cornstarch to adhere.

Step 3

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the gluten-free soy sauce (tamari), dark brown sugar, water, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil. Lower the heat and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove the sauce from heat and set aside.

Step 4

In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Fry the dredged beef strips in batches, being careful not to crowd the pan. Cook each batch for about 2 minutes per side or until the beef is crispy and browned. Transfer the cooked beef to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Step 5

Once all the beef is cooked, carefully remove the excess oil from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan. Return the skillet to medium heat and pour in the prepared sauce.

Step 6

Add the crispy beef strips to the skillet with the sauce and toss to coat evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the beef to absorb the flavors of the sauce.

Step 7

Stir in the sliced green onions and cook for an additional 1 minute. Serve immediately over steamed rice or alongside your favorite gluten-free sides.
