Ingredients

  • 1 lb Large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup Cornstarch
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 3 tbsp Sriracha sauce
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp Red chili flakes
  • 2 Green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs together and season with salt and black pepper.

Step 2

Add the cornstarch to a separate shallow dish.

Step 3

Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture to coat, then dredge in the cornstarch, ensuring an even coating. Set aside.

Step 4

In a large skillet or deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Step 5

Fry the shrimp in small batches for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack or paper-towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Step 6

In a separate small saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, Sriracha sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and red chili flakes. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 7

Toss the fried shrimp in the sauce until they are evenly coated.

Step 8

Plate the shrimp and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Step 9

Serve immediately as an appetizer or over steamed rice for a main course.
