Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Owens sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 16 ounces Ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices (optional)
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 0 Toppings of choice (lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.)
  • 0 Condiments of choice (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the Owens sausage and ground beef. Use your hands to mix the meats gently but thoroughly.

Step 2

Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the Worcestershire sauce and mix until evenly incorporated, being careful not to overwork the mixture.

Step 3

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help them cook evenly.

Step 4

Preheat a grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or pan to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Cook the patties on the preheated grill for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. For medium, the internal temperature should read 160°F (71°C) using a meat thermometer.

Step 6

If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the final minute of cooking and cover with a lid or aluminum foil to melt the cheese.

Step 7

Toast the burger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes, if desired.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on the bottom half of a bun. Add your preferred toppings and condiments, then finish with the top half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Owens Sausage and Ground Beef Backyard Burgers!
