Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.3333333333 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Whole milk (for icing)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm 1 cup of milk over medium heat until it's warm but not boiling. Stir in 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 cup butter until melted. Let the mixture cool to lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve 1 packet of active dry yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk mixture, the yeast mixture, 2 eggs, 4 cups of all-purpose flour, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup light brown sugar and 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon for the filling.

Step 6

Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle roughly 12x18 inches. Spread 1/4 cup softened butter over the surface of the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over it.

Step 7

Starting at the long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Cut it into 12 equal slices and place them cut-side up in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Step 9

In the morning, remove the rolls from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for 30-45 minutes to rise slightly.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Step 11

While the rolls bake, prepare the icing by whisking together 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in a small bowl.

Step 12

Drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving and enjoy!
