Ingredients

  • 8 cups (crumbled) Cornbread
  • 2 cups (crumbled) Day-old white bread
  • 1 cup (crumbled) Saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (2 sticks, melted) Butter
  • 1 large (diced) Yellow onion
  • 4 stalks (diced) Celery
  • 4 cups Chicken stock
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 tablespoon (chopped) Fresh sage
  • 2 teaspoons Poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large casserole dish or 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread, white bread, and saltine crackers. Mix thoroughly to ensure an even distribution.

Step 3

In a medium skillet, melt 1 stick of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery and sauté until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 4

Add the sautéed vegetables to the bread mixture in the large bowl.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and chicken stock. Pour this mixture over the bread and vegetable mixture.

Step 6

Add the chopped sage, poultry seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together gently until all the ingredients are evenly combined and the mixture is moist but not soupy.

Step 7

Pour the dressing mixture into the prepared casserole dish and spread it out evenly. Pour the remaining 1 stick of melted butter across the top of the dressing.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let the dish cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy alongside your favorite holiday dishes!
