Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (lean)
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 0.75 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 unit Large egg
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 0.5 cup Yellow onion (grated)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 0.25 cup Maple glaze (optional for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the Panko breadcrumbs and milk. Stir and let sit for 2-3 minutes until the breadcrumbs absorb the liquid.

Step 3

Add the ground beef, ground pork, egg, minced garlic, grated onion, parsley, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until evenly combined, but do not overmix.

Step 4

Using a cookie scoop or your hands, form the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet. The recipe should yield approximately 16-18 meatballs.

Step 5

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides. This step should take about 4-5 minutes per batch.

Step 6

Transfer the browned meatballs back to the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 7

If using the optional maple glaze, brush the meatballs with the glaze immediately after removing them from the oven for a sweet and savory finish.

Step 8

Serve warm as an appetizer, on pasta, or with mashed potatoes. Enjoy the Canadian-inspired deliciousness!
