Ingredients

  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 3 large Egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 4 ripe Bananas
  • 12 ounces Vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, flour, and salt until combined.

Step 2

Gradually add the milk while whisking continuously to prevent any lumps. Place the saucepan over medium heat.

Step 3

Whisk in the egg yolks and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens to a pudding-like consistency. This should take about 10-12 minutes.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until fully incorporated. Allow the custard to cool slightly.

Step 5

Peel and slice the bananas into thin rounds.

Step 6

In a 9-inch square or round baking dish, create a layer of vanilla wafers, followed by a layer of banana slices, and a layer of custard. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of custard on top.

Step 7

If desired, add a final garnish of crushed vanilla wafers or whipped cream.

Step 8

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the pudding to set.

Step 9

Serve chilled and enjoy!
