  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 cups beef broth (or stock)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 star anise
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
  • 0 salt (to taste)
  • 2 green onions (sliced, for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large soup pot over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil.

Step 2

Sear the beef cubes in batches until browned on all sides. Remove the beef and set aside.

Step 3

In the same pot, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
