Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (grated)
  • 1.5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for baking sheet or frying)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons green onions (sliced, optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.

Step 2

Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. Season them with salt and black pepper on both sides.

Step 3

Place the wings on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the wings and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. (Alternatively, fry the wings in vegetable oil until crispy, about 10-12 minutes.)

Step 4

While the wings are cooking, prepare the orange glaze. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.

Step 5

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally, and allow it to cook for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld together.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to a glaze-like consistency. Remove from heat.

Step 7

Once the wings are cooked, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the orange glaze over them and toss to coat evenly.

Step 8

Transfer the glazed wings to a serving platter. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired, and serve immediately.
