Ingredients

  • 1 lb Large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 cup Orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 orange Zest of orange
  • 2 tsp Black tea (loose-leaf or bagged)
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp Ginger (grated)
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 2 stalks Green onions (sliced thinly for garnish)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil and steep the black tea for 5 minutes. Remove the tea leaves or teabag and set the brewed tea aside to cool slightly.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine the orange juice, orange zest, brewed tea, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well mixed to create a marinade.

Step 3

Place the shrimp in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish and pour in the marinade. Seal or cover and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

Step 4

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the butter and let it melt, swirling to coat the pan.

Step 5

Drain the shrimp from the marinade, reserving the liquid. Add shrimp to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until pink and opaque. Remove shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Step 6

Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

Step 7

Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat them in the sauce. Cook for an additional minute to warm through.

Step 8

Transfer the shrimp to a serving platter and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve hot with rice, noodles, or a fresh side salad.
