Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh orange zest
  • 0.25 cups Fresh orange juice
  • 0.25 cups Whole milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the orange zest to evenly distribute its fragrance and flavor throughout the flour mixture.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the orange juice, milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 6

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix to ensure a tender biscuit texture.

Step 7

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently 2-3 times. Then, pat it into a ¾-inch-thick rectangle.

Step 8

Using a round biscuit cutter (approximately 2.5 inches in diameter), cut out biscuits and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. Re-roll the scraps and repeat as needed.

Step 9

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are lightly golden on top.

Step 10

Remove the biscuits from the oven and cool slightly on a wire rack. Optionally, dust the tops with powdered sugar before serving.

Step 11

Serve warm or at room temperature with tea or coffee for a delightful treat.
