Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger
  • 4 green onions, sliced
  • 0.5 cup walnuts, toasted
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, mix the cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk the eggs.

Step 3

Dip the chicken pieces into the egg mixture, then dredge in the cornstarch-flour mixture until evenly coated.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.

Step 6

In a clean skillet or wok, pour the sauce mixture and cook over medium heat until it begins to thicken, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 7

Add the fried chicken into the skillet and toss to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.

Step 8

Stir in the green onions and toasted walnuts, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes to ensure everything is heated through.

Step 9

Transfer the orange chicken to a serving dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds (if using) for garnish. Serve hot with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
