Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 150 grams Granulated sugar
  • 150 grams Unsalted butter
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 50 milliliters Milk
  • 3 medium Apples (firm, tart variety like Granny Smith)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round springform pan or line the bottom with parchment paper.

Step 2

Wash, peel, and core the apples. Cut them into thin slices and set aside. Optionally, sprinkle them with a little lemon juice to prevent browning.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar with a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

In another bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined and a smooth batter forms.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Step 7

Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern on top of the batter, slightly overlapping them. Sprinkle the cinnamon evenly over the apples.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving, if desired. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
