Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound bacon
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cans (16 oz each) pork and beans (canned, undrained)
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans (canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 can (15 oz) butter beans (canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until fully browned. Drain off any excess fat and set aside.

Step 2

In the same skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon, crumble it into small pieces, and set aside. Discard some of the bacon grease, leaving about 1 to 2 tablespoons in the skillet.

Step 3

Add the diced onion to the skillet with the reserved bacon grease and sauté until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned ground beef, crumbled bacon, sautéed onions, pork and beans, kidney beans, and butter beans.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, barbecue sauce, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 7

Pour the sauce mixture over the beans and meat mixture. Stir until everything is evenly coated.

Step 8

Transfer the mixture to a large baking dish or casserole dish and spread evenly.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven, uncovered, for 1 hour or until the beans are bubbly and slightly thickened. Stir occasionally if desired.

Step 10

Remove the beans from the oven and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
