Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 60 grams Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 300 grams Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 240 milliliters Milk
  • 120 milliliters Vegetable oil
  • 2 pieces Large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 240 milliliters Boiling water
  • 100 grams Butter
  • 100 grams Powdered sugar
  • 30 grams Unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 3

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 4

Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.

Step 5

Carefully stir in the boiling water until just combined. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

Step 6

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing out the top with a spatula.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 8

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy.

Step 10

Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing well. Stir in the milk until the frosting is creamy and spreadable.

Step 11

Once the cake is completely cool, frost with the chocolate frosting, using a spatula to create smooth, even layers.

Step 12

Slice and serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
