Ingredients

  • 240 grams All-purpose flour
  • 200 grams Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 120 milliliters Cold water
  • 1 large Egg
  • 100 grams Dark chocolate chips
  • 30 grams Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Gradually add the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough starts to come together. Knead the dough lightly into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Step 4

Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Fold it into thirds like a letter and roll it out again. Repeat this process three times to ensure flaky layers.

Step 5

Cut the pastry into 12 equal rectangles and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 6

In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush the tops of the pastry rectangles with the egg wash.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the pastries are golden brown and puffed.

Step 8

While the pastries are baking, melt the dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl using 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.

Step 9

Once the pastries have cooled slightly, drizzle the melted chocolate over each pastry using a spoon or a piping bag.

Step 10

In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar and vanilla extract with a teaspoon or two of water to create a glaze. Drizzle this glaze over the chocolate-top pastries for an added touch of sweetness.

Step 11

Allow the chocolate and glaze to set for a few minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your nut-free chocolate drizzled pastries!
