  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 3 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 4 oz Cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Cook the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden and bubbly.

Step 4

Gradually whisk in the whole milk and heavy cream, making sure to break up any lumps. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar, Gruyère, Parmesan, and cream cheese until fully melted and smooth.

Step 6

Add the garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine.

Step 7

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring to coat the pasta evenly.

Step 8

Pour the mac and cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 9

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs with the olive oil, mixing until the crumbs are lightly coated. Sprinkle evenly over the mac and cheese.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Step 11

Let the mac and cheese cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy a rich, gooey, and irresistible take on a classic comfort food!
