Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 16 cups mini marshmallows
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoons sea salt
  • 10 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 0.25 teaspoons flaky sea salt

Directions

Step 1

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray and set aside.

Step 2

In a large pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir frequently as it begins to foam and brown, about 4–5 minutes, until golden and fragrant. Keep a close eye to avoid burning.

Step 3

Once the butter is browned, reduce the heat to low and add 12 cups (or 3/4 of the total) of mini marshmallows to the pot. Stir continuously until completely melted.

Step 4

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and sea salt.

Step 5

Quickly fold in the Rice Krispies cereal with a spatula until evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.

Step 6

Gently fold in the remaining 4 cups of mini marshmallows for a gooey, layered texture.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Use a buttered spatula or your hands (lightly greased with non-stick spray) to firmly press the mixture into an even layer. Be careful not to pack too tightly, which can make the bars overly dense.

Step 8

Melt the dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth.

Step 9

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the Rice Krispie layer and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

Step 10

Allow the bars to cool at room temperature for at least 1 hour or until firm. For faster cooling, chill the dish in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.

Step 11

Once set, cut into 16 squares and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
