Ingredients

  • 2 3.4-ounce boxes vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 6 medium-sized bananas
  • 12 ounces vanilla wafer cookies (or butter cookies)
  • 1 for garnish chocolate shavings or caramel drizzle (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla instant pudding mix and cold whole milk until smooth and slightly thickened, approximately 2 minutes. Refrigerate for 5 minutes to allow it to fully set.

Step 2

Stir the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract into the pudding mixture until well combined and creamy.

Step 3

In a separate mixing bowl, use a hand or stand mixer to whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the pudding mixture to lighten it, reserving the other half for topping.

Step 5

Slice the bananas into 1/4-inch rounds and set them aside.

Step 6

In a trifle dish, 9x13-inch baking dish, or individual serving glasses, assemble the banana pudding by layering as follows: a layer of cookies, a layer of banana slices, a layer of pudding mixture. Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with a layer of pudding on top.

Step 7

Spread or pipe the remaining whipped cream over the top layer of pudding. For added flair, garnish with chocolate shavings or a drizzle of caramel, if desired.

Step 8

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the cookies to soften and the flavors to meld. Serve chilled and enjoy!
