Ingredients

  • 8 cups (cubed) Day-old bread (French bread, brioche, or challah)
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup (packed) Brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup Raisins (optional)
  • 1 batch Vanilla sauce (for topping, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Cut the day-old bread into 1-inch cubes and spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, melted butter, eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Step 4

Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, making sure all the bread is soaked. Use the back of a spoon to gently press the bread down to help it absorb the liquid.

Step 5

Sprinkle the raisins across the top, if using.

Step 6

Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to ensure the bread absorbs the custard fully.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 9

Optional: Drizzle with warm vanilla sauce before serving for an extra decadent treat.
