Ingredients

  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 16 ounces Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside in a single layer to prevent sticking.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Remove any excess grease.

Step 4

Add the onion and garlic to the skillet with the beef, and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese. Mix until well blended.

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Place 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, overlapping slightly.

Step 9

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese over the ricotta.

Step 10

Spoon 1/3 of the meat sauce over the mozzarella layer.

Step 11

Repeat the layering process (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, meat sauce) two more times, ending with the remaining meat sauce on top.

Step 12

Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer of sauce.

Step 13

Cover the lasagna tightly with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, spray the underside of the foil with nonstick cooking spray).

Step 14

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden and bubbly.

Step 15

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
