Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the linguine pasta until al dente according to package instructions. Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water, drain the rest, and set the pasta aside.
While the pasta is cooking, season the shrimp with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and the minced garlic. Sauté the garlic for 1 minute until fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
Lower the heat and pour in the heavy cream. Stir well to combine and let it simmer gently for 2-3 minutes until it starts to thicken.
Add the grated Parmesan cheese, lemon zest, and red pepper flakes. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is creamy and smooth.
Season the sauce with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. If the sauce seems too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water, a tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
Toss the cooked pasta into the skillet, ensuring it is evenly coated with the sauce.
Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently toss with the pasta to heat through, about 1-2 minutes.
Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the top and serve immediately. Optionally, garnish with extra Parmesan or a wedge of lemon for added freshness.
