Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Chickpeas (cooked or canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 0.25 cups Tahini or smooth peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 units Garlic (cloves, minced)
  • 1 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Water (for consistency)
  • 0.25 teaspoons Paprika (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, chopped for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini or peanut butter, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and salt.

Step 2

Process the mixture until smooth. Pause occasionally to scrape down the sides of the food processor for even blending.

Step 3

While the motor is running, gradually add the water, one tablespoon at a time, until the hummus reaches your desired consistency. It should be creamy and spreadable, but not overly runny.

Step 4

Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt, lemon juice, or cumin if necessary.

Step 5

Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl and smooth the top with the back of a spoon.

Step 6

Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the surface and sprinkle with paprika and parsley for garnish, if desired.

Step 7

Serve immediately with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or crackers, or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
