Ingredients

  • 6 slices Thick-cut brioche or French bread
  • 3 Large eggs
  • 1 cup Half-and-half
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar, for garnish
  • 0.5 cup Maple syrup, for serving

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Step 2

Pour the egg mixture into a shallow dish large enough to fit a slice of bread, such as a pie dish or baking dish.

Step 3

Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and allow it to melt and coat the surface of the pan.

Step 4

Dip one slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 10 seconds on each side. Ensure the bread is well-coated but not soggy.

Step 5

Place the soaked bread onto the hot skillet. Repeat the process with an additional one or two slices of bread, depending on the size of your pan.

Step 6

Cook the bread slices for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy. Adjust the heat to low-medium if the bread browns too quickly.

Step 7

Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate and cover lightly with foil to keep warm. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet and repeat the cooking process with the remaining bread slices.

Step 8

Once all the bread slices are cooked, dust the French toast with powdered sugar and serve with warm maple syrup.
