Ingredients

  • 1 head Green cabbage
  • 1 pound Ground pork
  • 0.5 pound Ground beef
  • 1.5 cups Cooked white rice
  • 1 medium Onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 can (14 ounces) Cranberry sauce (jellied or whole)
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup Chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove 12 large leaves from the cabbage head and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until softened. Set aside to cool.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, egg, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 4

Trim the thick stem on the back of each cabbage leaf to make rolling easier.

Step 5

Take one cabbage leaf, place about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center, fold the sides in, and roll it up tightly. Repeat with all the leaves and filling.

Step 6

In a medium saucepan, combine cranberry sauce, tomato sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar. Heat over medium heat, whisking, until smooth and well blended, about 5 minutes.

Step 7

Spread a thin layer of the cranberry sauce mixture in the bottom of a large baking dish. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in a single layer in the dish.

Step 8

Pour the remaining cranberry sauce mixture over the top of the cabbage rolls, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 75 minutes. Remove the foil during the last 10-15 minutes of cooking to let the sauce thicken slightly.

Step 10

Serve the cabbage rolls hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy your New Fashioned Cabbage Rolls!
