Ingredients

  • 4 pieces bone-in pork chops
  • 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Season both sides of the pork chops with 0.5 teaspoons of salt and 0.25 teaspoons of black pepper. Set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove the pork chops from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.

Step 3

Reduce the heat to medium and add butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until translucent and fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the apple cider vinegar, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon to deglaze.

Step 5

Add the applesauce, cinnamon, nutmeg, and the remaining 0.5 teaspoons of salt and 0.25 teaspoons of black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.

Step 6

Return the pork chops to the skillet, nestling them into the applesauce mixture. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) and the flavors meld.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 8

Serve the pork chops warm with a generous spoonful of the spiced applesauce. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.
