Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 lb Ground meat (chicken, pork, or beef)
  • 1 large Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp Cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 small Green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Neutral oil (e.g., canola or vegetable)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 0.5 tsp Turmeric powder

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, prepare the dough by combining all-purpose flour and water. Knead until a soft and elastic dough forms. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Step 2

In another bowl, prepare the filling by combining ground meat, chopped onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, green chili (if using), oil, salt, black pepper, garam masala, and turmeric. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

Step 3

Divide the rested dough into small, equal portions (about 1-inch balls). Roll out each portion into a thin, circular disc approximately 3 inches in diameter.

Step 4

Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each disc. Carefully fold and pleat the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside, forming a crescent or pouch shape.

Step 5

Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil. Lightly grease the steaming tray to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Place the momos on the steamer tray, ensuring they do not touch each other. Cover and steam over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through and the dough appears slightly translucent.

Step 7

Remove the momos from the steamer and serve them hot with a side of tomato achaar (spiced dipping sauce) or chutney.
