Ingredients

  • 2 cups Tomato ketchup
  • 1 cup Water
  • 0.5 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 5 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 5 tablespoons White sugar
  • 0.5 cup Lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the tomato ketchup, water, and apple cider vinegar. Stir to mix well.

Step 2

Add the brown sugar, white sugar, and lemon juice to the saucepan, stirring until the sugars dissolve completely.

Step 3

Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and kosher salt.

Step 4

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

Once the sauce begins to bubble, reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer uncovered for 25–30 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 6

Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. For a sweeter sauce, add an additional tablespoon of brown sugar. For more heat, increase the cayenne pepper.

Step 7

Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Step 8

Transfer the sauce to a clean, airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Step 9

Use this BBQ sauce to baste ribs, chicken, or as a dipping sauce for your favorite grilled foods.
