Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground chicken
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 3 pieces Bird's eye chili (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 2 cups Jasmine rice (for serving, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the ingredients: Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Finely chop the bird's eye chili (you may remove the seeds for less heat). Rinse the Thai basil leaves and set aside.

Step 2

Heat a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan.

Step 3

Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and chopped chili. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground chicken to the pan. Stir-fry, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until it is cooked through and no longer pink, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Step 6

Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked chicken. Stir well to combine and coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.

Step 7

Add the Thai basil leaves to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the basil to wilt and release its aroma.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add extra fish sauce or sugar to balance the flavors to your liking.

Step 9

Remove the dish from heat and serve immediately over steamed jasmine rice, if desired.
